where it is reinforced

Reinforced at

  1. 01ElbowsElbows carry a second layer of the same cloth, stitched through.
  2. 02Pocket edgesPocket edges are bartacked at both corners.

A reinforced point carries a second layer or a denser stitch. It moves the wear from one layer to two; it does not make the area exempt from wear. Where you work hardest is still where the garment will change first.

in detail

Cut from a 340 g/m² cotton canvas woven for a flat, dense hand. It starts stiff at the elbows and the pocket mouths, then relaxes along the fold lines you make yourself.

Three patch pockets: two at the hip, one at the chest, all bartacked at the corners where a hand goes in badly.

The elbow panel is a second layer of the same canvas rather than a lighter patch, so the two surfaces abrade at the same rate.
